Charlie Wilson's War

Rated R for language, violence, sexuality, drug use, nudity

Starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Phillip Seymour Hoffman

It's 1980. Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson spends his freetime partying with friends and strippers, playmates and going to elegant parties with famous people. It's not until he gets talked into visiting the President of Pakistan that he sees just how the Communist Soviet Union has made an effect on Afghanistan which has an impact on him to help get funding so the Afghans have a fair chance of fighting back and possibly ending the Cold War.

Based on a true story and written by those of the show The West Wing, it was a clever movie with witty dialogue. I'm not normally one to watch political or historical movies like this, but I actually found myself entertained - it was pretty good!

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Rated PG

Starring Nicholas Cage, Jon Voight, Helen Mirren, Justin Bartha, Ed Harris

This sequel starts out with the assassination of Abe Lincoln in a flashback. Ben Gates and father surprised at a lecture when presented with a missing page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth listing their relative Thomas Gates as one of the consiprators of the Lincoln assassination. In their quest to save the family name and clear their ancestor, the Gates and Co, including Abigal and Riley, go on another global treasure hunt which sends them searching for clues in Paris, England, DC and the rumored President's Book of Secrets.

It had the same wit and cleverness as the original, as well as the same Indiana Jones type history adventure the original had also. This is probably going to be the main family Christmas movie this year. Expect a third installment in the future as well, as it clearly alludes that there will be another treasure hunt.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Rated PG

Starring Jason Lee, David Cross, Justin Long, Jesse McCartney

In this big screen version of everyone's favorite chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore are whisked out of their woodland home and find themselves and their tree in the middle of an office building. In their quick escape, they end up in Dave Seville's basket. Dave is a struggling songwriter tried to get a break in the music industry. After coming to terms with his new furry houseguests he learns of their singing talent and writes the infamous Chipmunk christmas song we all know of. Wanting to get in on the action, "Uncle Ian" (Dave's record producer friend from college) tries to convince the chipmunks that Dave is holding them back, with rules among other things and tells them that they're superstars now - they can do whatever they want! In the end, Dave must come to terms with himself and the chipmunks must choose between a life of fastpaced fame with Uncle Ian or a structured life with Dave.

It was a good family feel-good movie with silly humor and the chipmunks were cute too!

Hitman

Rated R

Starring: Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott

Based off the video game, Hitman is about just that - a hitman and the man eager to catch him. Being known as the best in the business, 47 accepts a job to take out the Russian President, only plans have been made that it be public instead. Doing his job, 47 learns that it was all a set up and that the hit is on him. Determined to finish the job he started and stop those that are after him, we get this fun action film.

While it has the potential to be so much more, for an action film it was just alright - it had the guns and explosions with a loud industrial soundtrack and witty funny moments (such as him crashing through a window into a hotel room and the 2 teens are unphased by his presence and we see that they're playing the game Hitman on their video game console, or the scene where the girl he's protecting gets drunk and tries to have sex with he, him simply tranquilizes her so he can get back to work).

If you're looking for a fun typical action movie, you wont mind Hitman, but if you're looking for more action with a plot, you'll be disappointed,

Vin Disel is the executive producer too, if that says anything!

Enchanted

Rated PG

Starring: Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Susan Sarandon, James Mardsen, Idina Menzel, Timothy Spall

In Disney's latest family film, we start out watching animated Giselle and her forest friends create a Prince Charming, as Giselle sings about the qualities she'd like in the man and how she'd like to have her 1 true kiss. By chance, she meets Prince Edward. The 2 immediately fall in love and plan to be wed the next day. Jealous of her beauty, Queen Narcissa (Prince Edward's step-mother) sees Giselle as a threat and tricks her into falling down a magical well to a place where there is "no happy endings" - that place, is Manhattan and New York City. Scared, wet and cold, Giselle tries to find her way back to the castle and her home Andalasia. In her search she comes across Robert and his young daughter (who is the only one to believe she really is a princess). Together Giselle teaches Robert about love, while he teaches her about reality.

Disney pokes fun of all the cliches it's built over the years with fairytales, which made this movie pretty funny, not to mention cute. The musical number in the park was hilarious, as was Giselle's chipmunk friend Pip, who can speak in the animated world, but has to resort to charades in order to communicate in the real world.

If you're looking for a good family film for the holidays - definately check out this one!

Martian Child

Rated PG13

Starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Joan Cusack, Angelica Houston

John Cusack stars as David, a science fiction author with a best-selling book which is currently being made into a big production movie, and has been recently widowed. With encouragement from a friend who runs a childrens home, he is introduced to Dennis, a youngster who's been abandoned and abused and is convinced he is from Mars, sent to Earth on a mission to learn about our ways of life. He plays in a cardboard box, only eats Lucky Charms, takes polariod upon polariod of various things as well as takes anything he finds for 'research'. Trying to understand him, the question of 'is it good to fit in and be something your not or should you just be yourself' is one that is asked throughout the entire film.

Based on a true story, apparently the real Dennis was much more stranger and even more abused. Knowing that, it really makes ya feel for the kid, seeing how he's built this whole 'being from Mars' thing as way to escape the pain and suffering he's been through.

The movie itself was cute to watch, as is any good John Cusack film, seeing him interacte with the boy. We really feel a connection with the characters and they seem real to us.

American Gangster

Rated R for language, violence, nudity, sexuality, drug use

Starring Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe
In the late 1970s, Frank Lucas (Washington) became the top dog in New York, being able to get better seats at events than even the Mob Bosses could. He views loyalty, respect, honesty and remembering where you came from to be of utmost importance and loves his momma enough to make sure she's secured financially even buying her a huge house, however he makes all his money from selling "Blue Magic." Cutting out the middle man, Frank gets his stuff directly from overseas, making his product the most pure available, meaning it's the best, and he sells it at half the price the others do - it's a better product at a better price. The problem, "Blue Magic" is heroin.

Seeing Frank at a boxing match, with better seats than the Dons, good cop Richie (Crowe), who is known for being too honest in admist of crooked cops (his partner and he find $1 million in a car and turn it in rather than keep it) gets suspicious and starts digging deeper, learning more and more about the Lucas family business. Despite warnings from crooked cops, Richie and his Narcatics force go after the Lucas's and in the process, result in fixing one of the biggest New York corrupt cop problems.

Frank is portrayed as an honest black man, just trying to live the American Dream. Richie is portrayed as one of the few good cops left, trying to do his job (he tells one crooked cop that "where I come from, cops arrest the bad guys") despite his own personal problems. Both are deep characters.

Odds are, you'll see this one nominated come Oscartime.

Beowulf in Digital 3D

Rated PG13 for violence, nudity

Starring Ray Winstone, Robin Wright Penn, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie, John Malcovich, and Alison Lohman

The movie in general was pretty neat - the 3D animated renderings of the live actors was a really cool idea (supposidly, I'm told, the entire movie was shot using the actors and blue screens, and then they went back and computer animated everything). I recall there was one scene where you could literally see the strands of Robin Wright Penn's hair in the detail that you would a real person.

I never read the classic story of Beowulf in high school - while it's usually taught in Brit Lit, I opted to take English 101 and 102 that year for college credit. If you're not familar with the story, a Danish kingdom has a curse, in the form of Grendal - a hideous monster that comes out of hiding every so often to terrorize the residents of the kingdom, killing and destroying anything and anyone that approaches him, minus the king (Anthony Hopkins). So far, no one has been able to slay the Grendal and so the king declares throughout the lands that whoever can kill the monster will be entitled to half the king's fortune. In steps Beowulf (Ray Winstone) and his crew, who easily rid the kingdom of the monster, only to upset the creature's mother (Angelina Jolie). Beowulf soon learns of the secret the king and queen posess, as well as the curse of Grendal's mother, which both, in time, become his own.

Neil Gaiman, known most recently for his novel "Stardust" also wrote this screenplay, giving him the current lead on fantasy tales in Hollywood. Although it is animated, this is definately not a movie for kids, as it's full of sexual innuendo and lots of blood, guts, and violence. I'm actually surprised it's PG13, considering Angelina Jolie is pretty much fully nude in at least one scene (metallic 'paint' covers certain areas, but it leaves nothing to the imagination).

Across the Universe

What better way to depict the Vietnam War era than with tunes by the Beatles?

In this musical, Jude, a lad from Liverpool, jumps ship to America to meet the father he never knew, but that leads to a journey of events and friendships he never expected.

We see how the 60s affects the lives of Max, an ivy league dropout who unwillingly gets drafted into the war, and his younger sister Lucy, as well as their later roommates Sadie, a Janis Joplin-type singer, Jo-Jo, who's sorta like Jimi Hendrix, and Prudence, a little Asian lesbian just looking for someone to hold her hand.

On their adventures thru the 60s we come across Eddie Izzard in an amusing number where he's a sort of psychodelic circus ring leader, U2's Bono as author Dr. Robert (think Hunter S Thompson), and Salma Hayack as an army nurse.

It was amusing - some of it was genius, some of it was trippy, and it was fun too.

Not exactly one for the whole family, as there is some violence and nudity, but definately for those that like the Beatles or the period it's set in and can appreciate it.

Dan in Real Life

Steve Carell stars as Dan, who is a widowed father of 3 girls, ages 17, 15, and 10 and writes a weekly column in the newspaper in the fashion of Dear Ann, giving parenting and life advice to those that ask. His 17 year old daughter wants to drive, claiming that her instructor says shes really good, and his 15 year old just wants to spend every waking moment with her boyfriend, whom she's passionately in love with after only dating for 3 days.

On a trip to visit family and relatives for a sort of fall break in Rhode Island, he meets a woman at the bookstore that he instantly clicks with, only to learn later in the day that shes his little brother's (Dane Cook) newest girlfriend.

Given the cast, one might assume that this is a comedy, but not so much.

It has subtle humorous moments and the characters get put in some ackward moments that the viewer will find amusing. But it's more a heartfelt movie of a widower picking up the pieces of his life and moving on, focusing on what's important in life and finding happiness with those around him.

Saw IV

Like the tagline "It's a Trap" for this one states, it certainly is a trap... to keep on raking in the money and making more. If I had a dollar, no make that a dime, for everytime in the past 2 months I have heard some variation of the phrase "OMG they made a Saw 4?!" I'd be rich. Brace yourself folks, OMG there will be a Saw 5... and 6... and at least a 7, according to rumors that they wrote at least thru number 7 after they finished 2.

But onto the review! part IV leaves off right where 3 did... sorta...

without giving too much away, this one we see multiple interrogations of Jigsaw's ex-wife and learn a little bit about what drove him to his insanity of becoming the derranged 'killer' that he was as well as his first 'trap' and 'victim'. The last 5-10 minutes were just 1 twist after the other, linking together this trap with all previous ones in the first 3 installments. The whole time we're trying to figure out who the latest accomplice is in the Jigsaw murders, since we know it's not Jigsaw himself or Amanda, based off what happened in part 3. It also shows us the test of the SWAT team cop who's been in all of them up to this point (in minor roles so you probably never noticed him) who wants to save everyone but needs to learn that sometimes, you just need to let people save themselves.

Donnie Whalberg (Marky Mark's lil bro, or 'the bad boy' from NKOTB) is back reprising his previous role of Det. Eric Matthews, and he was actually pretty amusing.

If you've seen the previous 3 and don't mind them, then feel free to continue on in this series, if you haven't seen any or are tired of them dragging out the plot just to make money off ya, don't bother, you really don't miss much. The 'gore factor' is about on par with the previous installment - there's the medical gross factor they implimented in part 3, as well as the usual odd 'methods' of teaching the victims a lesson.

The House of Yes

It's based off a short play and stars Parker Posey, Freddie Prinze Jr, and Tori Spelling. It's thanksgiving in the early 80s and Jackie-O and her family havent had guests in years. Older brother Marty comes home to celebrate the holiday and brings his new fiance with him, causing crazy sister Jackie-O (as shes referred to) to go a bit more psychotic that usual. The plot deals with incest and the effects it can have on a family as a whole. All the characters are pretty deep, having their own hidden agendas and skeletons in the closet. Excellent acting by Parker Posey though. Given the subject matter, it was a pretty interesting film.

Michael Clayton

Very good if you like character developement, plot and dialogue. George Clooney stars as the title character who is basically this law firm's fixer upper guy when it comes to legal troubles (or janitor as he refers to himself). When working on a case, the firms represenative on it comes across some incriminating evidence against the company and illegal chemicals used in their product and so he secretly starts building a case against them to blow the whole thing into the open. He comes off looking a bit crazy though and goes a bit too far... Clayton picks up on it and realizes what his collegue was doing, and attempts to finish what he started.

30 Days of Night

It was pretty good for a vampire movie, with an interesting premise - in Alaska, some of the towns have complete darkness for 30 full days, what would happen if vampires showed up for a non-stop feast on those remaining? The vampires were pretty cool looking - all Nosferatu-esque. There was one scene where we just couldn't stop laughing (if ya see it, think of the convenient store part with the little girl). I only counted jumping a total of 3 times, so while it was good, it wasn't *too* creepy. Ben Foster (from 3:10 to Yuma) is probably my current favorite creepy bad guy - he plays it oh so well! It's also based on a graphic novel and I guess it stuck pretty much to it, only changing one part slightly but producing the same results. We're predicting this one to be better than Saw IV for Halloween this year.

The Game Plan

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as Boston Rebels quarterback Joe "The King" Kingman. He lives the life of a celebrity, having a huge bachelor pad covered in memorbilia of not only himself, but Elvis as well. Despite what the father on the team tells him, he thinks he has "the life." Then, after a huge new years party, the next morning a little girl named Peyton shows up on his doorstep, claiming to be his daughter from his short-lived marriage and will be staying with him for a month while her mom is in Africa. Over the course of the next few weeks, Joe goes from being a bad dad, leaving his daughter unattended at a nightclub opening, to being a concerned parent, looking after her and actually taking part in her life and the things she enjoys. Then comes the twist, where all is not as we think it is.

The little girl that plays Petyon is adorable and steals the show, holding her own against the other football players, Joe's agent Stella (Kira Sedgwick for tv's "The Closer") among others, while The Rock shows just how charismatic he can be.

For a Disney family film, it was pretty cute and clever. I'd recommend it for a family night.

Resident Evil: Extinction

I didn't see the second installment of this series, but honestly, you don't need to - if you've seen the 1st you know the basic premise.

The Umbrella Corporation created the T-Virus, creating undead zombies, which they thought had been contained in Raccoon City, however it wasn't and eventually spread throughout the US and eventually the world.

Years have passed and Alice (Milla Jovoich) is still on the move after escaping from the Umbrella Corp. (they were using her), helping the survivors she comes across in the process. The Umbrella Corp is trying to locate her once again though since they believe the key for the antidote to the virus is in her blood and the genetic clones they've made just aren't cutting it for their research.

If you like action movies that include zombies and loud driven music you'll like this one. Milla Jovoich proves once again that girls can too kick some major ass!

Good Luck Chuck

After going to one of his ex's wedding, where she deems him to be her 'lucky charm', Charlie (Dane Cook) is finding women strangely coming onto him. Rumor is, once a girl has 'been with' Chuck, she then finds her soulmate and is soon married. His friend conviences him that it's an awesome deal - sex with tons of beautiful women with no strings attached, however once he meets the girl of HIS dreams (Jessica Alba), he's scared to death his 'curse' is going to make him lose her to the next guy if he sleeps with her.Can he find a way to break the curse and keep the only girl he's ever really loved?

It was a cute movie. It reminded me a lot of 2005's Wedding Crashers, where it starts out as an over-the-top sex comedy for the first half and then turns into a romantic comedy for the last half. Although it's not as funny as the trailers make it out to be, it's still pretty entertaining.

Mr. Woodcock

John Foley (Sean William Scott, American Pie) is a writer of the newest best-selling self-help book about putting your past behind you. When it's announced that his hometown is having a celebration in his honor, he goes home to visit his mother (Susan Sarandon), only to meet her boyfriend of the past 5 months - his hated jr high gym teacher Mr. Woodcock (Billy Bob Thorton). Being a fat kid in jr high, he often felt like he was picked on by the gym teacher. Putting aside everything his book talks about, he strives to show his mom the man Mr. Woodcock really is, only to end up hurting her in the end. Everything does get resolved, revelations are made, etc.

If you like slapstick comedies, you'll like this one, otherwise you're not missing much. Ethan Suplee (Mallrats, My Name is Earl) co-stars.

3:10 to Yuma

Christian Bale (Batman Begins) is a poor rancher, who used the money to pay his land tax to feed his family instead. Because of that decision, the town authorities are giving him 1 week to come up with the money he owes, otherwise they're burning down his property so a railroad can be built through it. Russell Crowe is well known outlaw that gets captured after his crew robs a nearby pony express type wagon. The town officials plan on putting him on the 3:10 to Yuma prison train, however they need brave men to escort him to the station, 90 miles away and throw his following gang of men off track. Needing the money and wanting to earn his eldest son's pride, Bale volunteers for $200, and our journey across the west begins.

I'm not really big into westerns, but I'll admit, this one was pretty good. It was entertaining and suspenseful. The characters were very 3-dimensional, having a great amount of depth to them. Bale, Crowe and Ben Foster all do an amazing job.

This is most likely one you'll see again, come Oscar-time.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween

*note* I never saw the original John Carpenter's Halloween, however, like most, I'm aware of the basic story and have seen parts of the sequels.

This version of Halloween is Rob Zombie's interrpretation of the original. It is not another sequel. Zombie worked with Carpenter to capture the essence of the original.

The result is a classic 70s horror movie, stylized very much like how we saw in the most recent omage to 70s film, Grindhouse. The supsenseful jump-your-seat moments were timed perfectly, it has a bit of the grindhouse type subtle wit/humor you would expect from a 70s B movie (think the Evil Dead series).

It starts out in the late 70s/ early 80s with Michael Myers as a 10yr old boy. He comes from a broken home where his mother works as a stripper, his sleazy abusive stepdad is an alcoholic with a broken leg, and his older sister is known for being a whore.Bullies at school constantly pick on him for how his family is. After Mikey's most recent run-in with the bullies, the school counselor finds photos in his bag of smaller animals he's tortured and mutiliated and promptly suggests his mother get him evaluated before Mikey goes off the deep end.

A little too late.

After school we see Mikey beat one of the bullies to a pulp with a tree branch, Later that night, after mom goes to work and his sister refuses to take him trick or treating, Mikey ducts tapes his passed out stepdad to a chair and slits his throat, beats his sister's boyfriend to death with an aluminum baseball bat, and then slice and dices big sis with a knife. When mom gets home, Mikey's sitting on the steps out front, waiting with baby sister Laurie.

He spends the next 15 years in a mental facility, but never getting any better and eventually refuses to talk or take off the odd masks he makes in his alone time. In a late night transfer gone wrong, the behemoth Mikey breaks lose and takes off in search for his baby sister. As his doctor says, whatever his reasons are, they can't be good.

As you can tell, there's lots of gore and violence.

Some familar faces you may recongnize are Sheri Moon Zombie as Mikey's mom, Malcom McDowell as Dr. Loomis, with appearances by Danielle Harris and Danny Trejo.

It's interesting to see how Mikey came about wearing the mask we all know him to wear and the boogyman conversations between the 2 little kids Laurie babysits are completely amusing, especially when he shows up!

I never saw Devil's Rejects and I thought House of 1000 Corpses was one of the stupidest movies ever made (although the art/imagery used was interesting and a bit disturbing, the plot made no sense and overall it was just a giant gorefest), but this one I actually liked. Some people will hate it, others will like it.

Just remember kids, if you listen to Blue Oyster Cult and have sex, you die!

The Last Legion

Before Arthur pulled Excalibur out of the stone, there was the Last Legion.

The boy Romulous is about to be crowned Caesar. But soon after, Rome is attacked and the boy is taken captive, as is the mysterious man who aids him, pursuading their captors that the boy is worth more to them alive than dead. His general comes to rescue them along with allied soliders. In their journeys, the boy comes across Exalibur and they all head to Britianna to find the last legion of the Roman Empire to fight against their oppressors.

Somewhere out there is an R-rated version of this film, as you could tell they cut parts of fights out to not display the graphicness of the fight. The story was entertaining - i was expecting to be bored, but I wasn't - the action was decent (but not nearly as cool as 300).

This one stars Ben Kingsley as the Merlin-esque figure and Collin Firth as the General, as well as a hot indian chick.

War

I looooove Jason Statham - he makes being a hitman look classy and hot - and Jet-Li movies are pretty cool too. So I was excited for this end of summer action flick.

Statham is an FBI agent working in the San Fransico area, keeping an eye on the activity of the local Asian gangs. His partner and his family get gunned down, with their cabin burned to the ground, causing Statham to find the guy who did it. 3 years later, the same bullets that were recovered at his partner's death resurface, causing him to continue his search, which brings him right into the middle of a War between 2 asian families - the Shiro's and the Chang's and their gangs, the Triads and Yuzuka. Jet-Li is obviously the bad guy in this movie... or is he?

Although the ending just kind of... ends, the twist is one that'll make ya go 'oooh, i see...' being not one you'd think of right away.

The Jet-Li action scenes were pretty good, despite the sub-par plot... however there just wasnt enough Jason Statham action scenes.

If you're in for an action movie or a Jason Statham/Jet-Li flick, you might be interested in this one.

Superbad

Screened "Superbad" last week and then took my boyfriend to it, for a second helping.

I'll admit, I'm an Apatow & Co. fan - Freaks and Geeks is by far my favorite tv show and I loved this summer's "Knocked Up" and 2005's "40 Year Old Virgin." With those in mind, I guess I was expecting more of a plot, more substance. Although Superbad wasnt what I was expecting, it was still pretty funny.

Seth and Evan have been best friends and rarely seperated, but as their senior year comes to an end, they start to face seperation anxiety as in the fall they'll be attending different colleges. In their last ditch effort to attend a graduation party together and get laid they set out on a quest to get booze for the party, after learning a tag along friend, Fogel, is getting a fake ID. What we see is the misadventures of the threesome as they attempt to get the booze and get to the party, which includes multiple run-ins with 2 bumbling cops who just want to have fun.

However, like all Apatow productions, it's got heart.

Think American Pie meets Harold and Kumar with a soundtrack set to the 70s.

Like I said, it was funny, and you can probably relate to some of it if you've been through high school or been an underager trying to get booze and party, it just wasn't the movie I was expecting to see when I sat down.

The Bourne Ultimatum

Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is back in this 3rd installment based off the 60s spy novels, but this time he's searching for answers as to why he is the person he now is.

Like Ocean's 13, it's better than the 2nd one, almost on par with the 1st.

Joan Allen's character of Pamela Landy turns into a much more likable figure in this one and Julia Stiles also returns.

The action scenes were really good and it kept you guessing as to what happens next!

If you like the Bourne series, be sure to catch this one.

Stardust

Basically, if you grew up watching The Princess Bride, like I did, and/or love fairytale fantasies you will love this movie, as it's got the same wit and cleverness of it's Princess predecessor, but not nearly the amount of corny-ness...

Robert DeNiro steals all the scenes he's in - I won't say why, but it will have you rolling over in laughter.

Overall it was a very well done and is easily The Princess Bride of the new century when it comes to fairytales in this day and age.

Aside from DeNiro, it also stars Charlie Cox, Claire Danes and Michelle Pheiffer.

Based off a graphic novel, DON'T miss this one!

Hairspray

This musical remake of the late-80s original had a much deeper plot than I would of thought. Set in the 1960s when schools, among other things, were segregated by color, it teaches lessons of standing up for whats right and acceptance of others, regardless of how they look or the color of their skin.

Altho the values were deep, the songs were pretty bad... and that's coming from my sis who loves musicals... from what I hear the original was better, even though it was pretty bad.

And John Travolta makes one UGLY woman, however Christopher Walken is entertaining as he always is.

This film also stars American Dreams' Brittany Snow, Michelle Pheiffer, Amanda Bynes, Queen Latifah, James Marsden, Zac Efron and Nikki Blondsky.

I Know Who Killed Me

Really, I do - it was the director who filmed this piece of wannabe artsy crap and the team that came up with the idea. They killed 2 hrs of my life and I want it back.

The twist that's been hyped on tv and online is really easy to figure out, altho the trailer may make you think otherwise. At one point, Parent Trap jokes were being made among us.

The 'killer' and the point of him is retarded. Altho Lohan had no problem playing a crackhead stripper. The 'torture' scenes were mainly just bloodiness.

It tried to be artsy with the colors blue and red, but it was just waaaaaaay too over the top.

It ran on for waaaay too long too - we were yelling at the screen for it to just end.

Yeah, it was that bad.

Skip this one and go see something much more worth your time and money.

The Simpsons Movie

I thought it would be dumb and it honestly felt like an extended episode, however right from the beginning it was very clever, taking full use of being in theaters.

If ya ever watched the show and liked it at some point in it's 18 yr run, you'll like the movie just well.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

Kevin James (The King of Queens) is Chuck, a widowed father of 2 and one of Brooklyn's bravest firefighters who recently is struggling to get his pension changed from his dead wife to his kids.

Adam Sandler is Larry, Chuck's best friend on the force and your typical playboy.

After telling Chuck he owes him for saving his life on the job, Larry reluctantly agrees to pose as his 'life partner' in order to help Chuck fool the gov't and make sure his pension is safe. However, once a curious inspector shows up, they get their lawyer, Jessica Biel to help em out.

Some might think this movie portrays gays poorly, others will think it's too tolerant and pro-gay.

Honestly, I didnt really plan on seeing this one, not wanting to sit thru an hour and a half of gay jokes, but it was actually pretty funny and entertaining.

Steve Buscemi, Dan Akroid, and Rachel Dratch have small roles.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I didnt read the books until after I saw the 4th movie. Having read the books and now seeing this one... I'm a bit disappointed.

They cut a ton of the extra plot lines out, changed around things that happen (one of them being a pretty big deal), and threw in things from the book for the sake of them being in there, but never really explained them. Watching it with several coworkers that hadn't read the books, they liked it for what it was, but admitted that they could tell there had been stuff cut from the story and wished certain things had been explained more...

Go see if ya've seen the others, but if ya read the books, you'll be a bit disappointed...

Live Free or Die Hard (Die Hard 4)

Before I start, I have not seen any of the previous Die Hard installments. But that's okay because this one can clearly stand on it's own.

Bruce Willis reprises his famed role as NY Detective John McClaine. When he agreed to escort computer hacker Matt Farrell (Justin Long - the 'I'm a Mac' guy) into custody for Homeland Security, he didnt know what he was getting himself into. Finding themselves in the middle of a Firesale it's a race against time to shut the terrorist mastermind down before Armaggedon happens in the US. Oh and did I mention they have his daughter now too?

It was an entertaining action flick with an action plot (i hate action movies that are all action and no plot). it seemed like it dragged on for a lil bit towards the end though but the all the stunts were pretty cool.

Definately more of a guy movie, but if it's his turn to pick, you'll still be entertained.

Transformers

In a summer of big blockbuster sequels, this will probably be *the* summer blockbuster for the year. Seriously, who wouldn't wanna see cool cars transform into giant robots and fight each other over mankind?

Although the storyline wasn't much and was fairly simple, the special effects were awesome! It's your typical Michael Bay film - the romantic storyline, the kid that leads people to safety, explosions and things blowing up... but it's all very entertaining!

I'd say it's a pretty solid film for the whole family... well maybe not mom, but for the kids, young and old and young at heart. Especially if ya grew up with Optimus Prime and Megatron back in the 80s. Also, the pop culture references of today are quite amusing, ie: references to Ebay, the internet, xm radio, etc... you also see plenty of the sponsors' logos too. The new Chevy Camero and the Pontiac Solstice are pretty sweet looking too!

Be sure not to miss this one this 4th of July weekend!

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer

I never saw the first one, it looked too bad just from the brief clips i had seen. I had the same impression about this one as well and I was right!

On the verge of the wedding of Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman) and Reed Richards (aka Mr Fantastic, who, imo, aint very good looking), a strange energy is creating massive craters in the earth and the Fantastic 4 are recruited by the US gov't to help out. Creating new alliances and dealing with villians old and new, our heros learn what's really important.

It had it's humorous moments, but was filled with over the top cheesiness.

Guys will like watching Jessica Alba despite her awful dye job, girls will like watching the hotness that is Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch), comic book geeks will be pissed about the portrayal of Galactus, and unfortunately Michael Chiklis gets the shaft.

1408

Usually, the majority of Stephen King movie horror adaptions have been horrible - just look 'dreamcatcher' or 'secret window' for example - while others such as The Shining, The Stand, and 1408 are genuinely creepy.

In 1408, John Cusack, who hasnt aged in like the past 20 years, is a paranormal writer who documents his experiences in so-called' haunted houses across the country. Not believing in any of the paranormal when he gets a postcard telling him not to stay in 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel he of course jumps at the change to stay im the room that has claimed 56 lives since the hotel opened. The entire rest of the film is mainly John Cusack acting as we see the psychological pressure this "evil fucking room" puts on him.

It was very clever and genuinely creepy. If you're looking for a good suspenseful psychological thriller, then this is one not to be missed!

Samuel L. Jackson briefly co-stars as the hotel manager, altho he's more of a minor role than the commercials make it out to be.

Ratatouille

very very cute! disney and pixar have done it again!

the characters are very 3 dimension too and not just static like most animated films have been lately. sadly though, with all the blockbusters coming out this summer, it's likely to get swallowed up.

but it's a really good movie for the whole family - i highly recommend going to this one.

Knocked Up

freaking hilarious!

if ya like judd apatow's works (cable guy, freaks and geeks, undeclared, anchorman, ricky bobby, 40yr old virgin), any of the former 'freak' boys from freaks and geeks (seth rogen, james franco, jason segal), or part of the 40 yr old virgin cast (paul rudd, leslie mann), and if ya liked the humor in 40 yr old virgin, check this one out.

you also see ryan seacrest going on a rampage about hollywood stars!

probably one of the funniest films this summer, however not for the kids.

the chick from greys anatomy gets a promotion at her E! studio job and decides to go out and celebrate with her sister, where she meets and has a 1 night stand with slacker pothead ben (seth rogen). 8 weeks later, she finds out shes pregnant. it's more of a pregnancy and growing up movie from the guy's perspective, as we see Rogen's character trying to make things work out for the best.

be sure to catch it this summer!

Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End

Pirates 3 continues right as the 2nd one left off. Lord Beckett has the heart of Davy Jones and is using it as leverage to control the Flying Dutchman. Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan are still not speaking, due to the 'misunderstanding' in the previous film, but are working together with the Voodoo lady, Capt Barbosa, Mr. Gibbs and the rest of the Black Pearl Crew to bring back Capt. Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones' locker.

We also see Chow Yun Fat as the Singapore Pirate Lord, as well as Keith Richards in a brief comical cameo. A lot of double-crossing happens, so much to the point that you can no longer tell who to actually believe.

The ending was great in the fact that it tied up the trilogy nicely, but also left it open for future installments (Johnny Depp has been quoted saying he'd sign up for a 7th film if they wanted to do it, he loves the character so much).

Also, stick thru the 6-8 minutes of the credits this time for an epilogue that actually has a point to it, unlike the 5 sec clip at the end of the previous one.

Shrek the Third

Shrek the Third is Dreamworks latest installment of their Shrek series.

In this one, Fiona's dad, the king of Far Far Away, is dying. Shrek is the next in line for the throne, but really doesnt feel an ogre king would be a good idea, not to mention he's missing his swamp, so him, Donkey and Puss in Boots go off in search of Fiona's cousin, Arthur, who's 2nd in line for the throne.

Meanwhile, Charming is determined to get his revenge on Shrek and talks the rest of the storybook villains into helping him out. Fiona and her band of princess, including her mother, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Cinderella with ugly stepsister Doris as well as Pinocchio, the 3 little pigs, the big bad wolf and Gingy (the gingerbread man) and Dragon (Donkey's wife) do their best to protect the kingdom while Shrek is away.

This one is shorter than the others, as Jeny pointed out, and doesnt really have a big obstacle in the middle of the movie like the other 2 did, not to mention less singing as well. It sticks to the main plotline and gets to the point.

I liked it. If you're a fan of the first 2 you'll like the 3rd installment as well and if you like silly animated movies with subtle adult humor, but laughs for the kids as well, be sure to check it out!

28 Weeks Later

5 years after his smash British hit 28 Days Later, starring Cillian Murphy and Naomi Harris, director Danny Boyle releases the follow-up 28 Weeks Later.

In 28 Days Later, for those that have forgotten, an infection has broken out all over Britain, turning it's victims into zombie-like creatures that prey on the living. Jim (Cillian Murphy) was in a hospital and awakes 28 days after the infection broke out, to a ghost-town like London. Unsure of what happened he searches for anyone alive, where he meets Serena (Naomi Harris) a woman running from the infected in hopes of survival. In their escape out of London they come across a farmer and his teenage daughter, also on the run. They make their way to army facility they hear about over the radio, but oh how the plot thickens. The ending given in the theaters was more of a happy one where they get rescued and taken to a quarentined area. Personally, the alternative ending is more satisfying for the film itself.

In 28 Weeks Later, we Don and his wife, living in hiding with an older couple and several others in an abandoned cottage, just days after the infection has broken out. As expected, the infected come after them, Don being the only that escapes and makes his way to a quarantined area.

Fast forward to 6 months later, District 1 of London is rebuilt, the American Army is helping out and keeping watch and those quarantined are back to living like normal again. Outsiders that made it out before the infection hit are slowly being brought back in, including Don's 2 kids - 12yr old Andy and teenage Tammy.

After learning about their mother's death, Tammy and Andy decide to sneak out of District 1 to their former home, in search of a photo of their mother (Andy tells his sister he's afraid of forgetting what she looks like). Of course, the army comes after them, but they bring back more than just a photo to district 1.

Mass chaos soon occurs, Code Red happens and the military's instructed to shoot at anyone - infected or not - total extintion and lots of carnage, since the situation got out of hand. Only problem is, there's survivors, desperate to get freedom.

It was alright, but if you've seen the first one, you know what to expect. What got me in the first one was the 'twist' 3/4ths of the way into it. This one had several parts where it was either predictable, or it was like 'why didnt they do that?' More security on the military's part could have prevented events from happening, plain and simple. Also, we see a scene that recently occured in Robert Rodrigez's Planet Terror (from the double feature Grindhouse) and a scene that looked almost like it was from The Blair Witch Project. It was also very very dark in some scenes - almost to where you couldnt even tell what was going on.

The music was just as awesome in this one though as it was in the first one. I applaud John Murphy and his score.

If you've seen and liked the first one, you'll like this one, or if ya just like zombie movies and carnage too.

Spiderman 3

It was good. Very good. A great movie to kick off the summer season with. It had tons of action, some great comedic scenes (ie: Peter Parker out and about after being infected by Venom, Bruce Campbell's usual cameo - this time as a French Matre'd, among several other scenes), and the plot/story continues to be just as good.

In this one, they also add to the cast Topher Grace (from That 70's Show) as rival photographer Eddie Brock who turns into Venom later, Thomas Haden Church (from George of the Jungle, Ned and Stacey, Wings) as Flint Marco aka The Sandman, and Dallas Bryce Howard (Ron Howard's daughter, from Signs and Lady in the Water) as Gwen Stacy - the police chief's daughter and Peter's lab partner. Harry Osburne's butler also takes on a more prominent role in this one too, turning into a Alfred-type from the Batman series.

Kirsten Dunst also sings several times in this one, altho she's not horrible, she's not great either...

Not sure if it's supposed to be the last in the series - rumor is that directer Sam Raimi signed everyone on for 3 more films - however it did wrap everything up quite nicely, not leaving any loose ends really.

Be sure Spiderman 3 is on your list of summer movies to go see!

Hot Fuzz

This movie was hilarious. If you saw the group's previous film 'Shaun of the Dead' you know exactly what to expect. Lots of action movie spoofs in this one, lots of references to Point Blank and Bad Boys 2, and lots of over exaggerated blood. At the end it started to feel like it was dragging on, but then it got completely goofy and made up for it.

In this one, Mr. Shaun of the Dead Simon Pegg plays Nicholas Angel - London's top police officer who has a record 400% of the arrests in the city. His bosses deem him to be 'too good' at his job and feel his performance is making the rest of them look bad... so they promote him to Sargeant and relocated him out to the country village of Sandford, where there hasn't been a murder in 20 years and has a record low crime rate. Altho minors are allowed into the local pub, the residents deem it's 'all for the greater good... the greater good' since they're inside and not outside getting in trouble. After a series of 'unfortunate accidents' Nicholas starts to take matters into his own hands to get to the bottom and find answers to questions that were never thought to be questioned.

Be sure to catch this British gem if ya get a chance!

The Invisible

Saw The Invisible last night.

And do not be fooled - it's hardly anything like the trailers/commercials make it out to be. If you go by the trailers, it would appear that he's murdered and if he wants to live again, he has to solve his own murder mystery within a certain time frame.

Yeah, hardly.

What the story actually is, is that the group that 'murders' him dumps his body and is trying to cover their tracks, although really he's still alive, but barely. He's sort of a ghost stuck in a universe between life and death, and realizes that he's actually still alive, but if he doesnt hurry and find someway to communication where his body is located, he will actually die. He's basically invisible, he can be there, but no one sees him. Kinda like a different dimension i guess. And the only person that can hear him his the last person he saw - his murderer.

It was still pretty good though, esp for being a remake of a Swedish film.

If you're in a for a good dramatic/murder type movie, check out The Invisible, rated PG-13 for mild language, teenage drinking, violence and i'd say some mature themes.

Grindhouse: Planet Terror and Death Proof

Just got back from watching Grindhouse at work - the new Robert Rodrigez/Quinten Tarentino double feature - and it was awesome.

Rodrigez's 'Planet Terror' is basically a zombie flick set in modern day, done '70s style starring Rose McGown and Bruce Willis - Fergie makes a cameo. Think of your stereotypical zombie flick, add some randomness and you get this one. It was hilarious and awesome!

Tarentino's 'Death Proof' stars Rose McGown, Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson and Zoe Bell (as herself) and is basically about a stuntman and his car who eventually decides to have some fun with a couple of stunt chicks and their car. This one starts out kind of slow - several scenes of girls chewin' the fat and bitching at each other, but the last 15 min or so definately makes up for it!

Rob Zombie does one of the coming attraction previews - 'Werewolf Women of the SS' - as does Eli Roth (director of Hostile) does a hilarious one called 'Thanksgiving.' Our copy also has trailers for Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' (due out in August) and the latest trailer for Eli Roth's 'Hostile 2'

It's got 'missing reels,' film catching on fire, cigarette burns on the screen among other typical 70s grindhouse cliches. If you like zombie movies and fast cars, check this one out! It was quite an experience - either you'll get it or you wont.

*warning, it is approximately 3 and a half hours long (we started it at 2am, the film dropped at 530am - it's 12 reels long), so pee beforehand and dont drink too much liquid or ya may miss something (but if you must pee, i recommend going during one of the long character developement scenes in Tarentino's DeathProof).

*also, due to graphic sexual scenes and anatomy shown, as well as graphic violence, this is not for anyone that's not an adult. sorry kiddies, but I guarentee you will be carded.

Blades of Glory

Blades of Glory
this one was hilarious - at one point i was laughing so hard my eyes got watery.

granted, i skated for like 4-6 years when i was a kid so that peaked my interest in this one.

will ferrell and jon heder (aka napoleon dynamite) were really funny together as rivals turned pairs skaters.

typical college/bathroom type humor...

figure skating champions such as nancy kerrigan, scott hamilton, and sacha cohen make appearances.

ben stiller was one of the writers/producers and the roommate from grandma's boy is heder's obsessed stalker fan...

i didnt see ricky bobby so dont ask me how it compares, but i thought this one was really funny - funnier than wild hogs.

TMNT

TMNT
Screened TMNT last night.

We learn our favorite Turtles have defeated Shredder and in an effort to become an even better leader, Master Splinter has sent eldest son Leondaro on a sort of sabatical in Central America. During his year long absense, the others are at their wits end at trying to stay occupied. Donatello takes a job as a 24/7 computer help programer, Michaelangelo has taken a job as Cowabunga Carl, making appearances in a cartoonish turtle suit at birthday parties, and Raphael, well he sleeps all day, but at night becomes the Ghost Rider/Batman-esque Nightwatcher, catching the bad guys on his own - he states that even though Leo and their team took a break, the criminals did not.

Leo eventually makes his return after being found by April O'Neil, and while most are pleased to see him, Raphael still has a chip on his shoulder and makes it almost impossible for Leo continue to lead them.

In the meanwhile, we learn of an ancient prophecy that is about to become real with an immortal warrior and his 4 generals that were turned to stone after he opened a portal to other dimensions 3000 years ago, unleashing 13 monsters on the earth. the time has come for the portal to open again, but this time, the warrior enlists the help of the Foot with new clan leader Karai.

The end gives way to a sequel.

The CGI animation is pretty cool and very video game-esque.

The love connection between April and Casey Jones is completely obvious. April is now more of a history curator rather than a reporter in a yellow jumpsuit and actually gets involved in the action rather than being the damsel in distress like she was in the original series. She's also voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar which drove me nuts the whole time.

Casey Jones is portayed as a more surfer Kenau Reeves type slacker who uses baseball bats - we only see him use his signature hockey stick at the end.

The rest of the turtles seem right on though and the Foot clan looks really cool too! There's also plenty of funny Mikey jokes as well.

If ya grew up with the original cartoon series and movies, you'll think this adaption is just ok, nothing great, but not bad either. It just doesn't feel the same. The beginning sequence about the prophecy reminds ya of 300 which opened 2 weeks ago.

Laurence Fisbourne narrates, Patrick Stewart and the late Mako lend their voices, and Kevin Smith makes a cameo as a scared diner owner. The Gym Class Heroes provide the end credit song "Shell Shocked"

and for those wondering, it's called TMNT because this one was done by Warner Bros, wheras the first 3 films, listed as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was done by New Line Cinema.

Wild Hogs

4 middle aged men living in suburban Ohio - John Travolta, Tim Allen, Willam H Macy and Martin Lawerence - are old college buddies who meet up each week and ride their bikes to the local pub and call themselves the wild hogs. after travolta learns he's losing all his material things in life, he decides they should all just take a week and get away from life, just 4 friends and the open road, headed to the coast.

on their trip, they have a run in with the Del Fuego's, a hardcore biker gang that doesnt like the fact that the Wild Hogs are mild aged suburban yuppies and dont think they could possibly know anything about the real meaning of being a biker. They also befriend a small town that is terrorized by the Del Fuego's, and learn about friendship, family, and love.

it was pretty funny, a couple gay innuendos including a gay police officer who keeps finding our boys in some odd situations/circumstances (which apparently liberals are upset over), but nothing too over the top. if you like any of the main actors or are just looking for a pg13 movie you can take your teens to for a good laugh, it's worth checking into.

Ray Liotta, Marisa Tomi, and Jill Henessy also star and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D makes a cameo as a festival singer.

And if you like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, be sure to watch the end credits.

Only Spartan women give birth to real men: 300 review
Screened 300 last night and omg was it awesome!

It's based off the graphic novel written by Frank Miller (same guy that created Sin City) and tells the tale of Lionicies (i butchered that i know), the King of Sparta, and his 300 Spartans that take on the Persians and Xereces army.

Lots of violence but very stylized, and yes, for all you guys, there's plenty of boob shots too.

Also had lots of funny one-liners, such as:

Messenger: What makes this woman think she can speak among men?
Queen: Because only Spartan women give birth to real men.

Solider: It's just an eye, the gods of graced me with a spare.

King: Spartans, what is your profession?
Soliders chant
King: Looks like I brought more soliders than you.

It was an awesome movie - very stylized and creatively done, and witty as well. If you like action movies, go see it. If you like artsy movies, go see it. If you like titties, I guess go see it *shrug*. If you like greek history stories, go see it. It won't disappoint you.

Music & Lyrics

Hugh Grant stars as a former member of a popular 80s group called 'Pop!' (think Wham and other 80s new wave bands). In order to bring his career out of the toilet, he must write the next hit song for new age pop sensation Cora (think Britney Spears into New Age). With the help of struggling lyricist Sophie (Drew Barrymore), they work together and learn a lot about themselves and of course they fall for each other. Like any Drew Barrymore movie, it was cute. Definately a chick flick, but a cute one! Hugh Grant's pretty hot in it as well. Kirsten Johnson and the guy that played Robert on Everybody Loves Raymond co-star.

Norbit

Norbit... like I really need to tell you guys to stay away from this one, but considering how it almost sold out a couple times last weekend, apparently I do!

Although I missed the beginning due to filmwork, (big loss!) what I got was that Norbit (Eddie Murphy) was raised in an orphanage with this other girl that he liked, but was too shy to tell her so they just remained friends. Years later he meets Raspusha (the fat lady version of Eddie Murphy) and shes the first girl that shows interest in him, so they get married. Well his childhood friend comes to town with her fiance (Cuba Gooding Jr) and is looking to buy the orphanage and renovate it, however her fiance learns from Raspusha's construction company that it's one of the few propertis in town that can easily get a liquor liscense and that if he helps them steal the property out from under her, they'll make him partner in their 'titty bar.' Norbit accidently gets tricked into having her sign papers for it, thinking they're just normal contract papers, during the time they spend together. Raspusha gets insanely jealous and is sure not to let the 2 of them out of her eye. A silly wedding ensues, which includes condom advice from an ex-pimp (one of the funniest characters in the whole movie). Definately not worth the time nor the money so avoid this one!

Smokin' Aces

If you like shoot em up movies but with an interesting plot, definately check this one out. The FBI makes a bargain with Buddy 'Aces' Israel - a vegas star who is wanted dead by the mob, to bring him into custody alive (one of which includes Ryan Rynolds), however numerous groups have been hired to 'bring him in' - including a trio of bounty hunters (including Ben Affleck), a pair of female assassins (including Alicia Keys), a trio of kamikaze skinhead brothers, a man that works solo and is a master of disguise, Ace's best friend, among others. The showdown at Ace's penthouse hotel suite is quite amusing and Alicia Keys is pretty good in her first big movie role. The twist at the end is rather interesting as well. Think 'Kill Bill' type of action/comedy.

Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert in 3D

Although I got stuck sitting through this pre-teen torture, the digital 3D quality of the concert was quite amazing! It was very life like and at certain points almost made you feel like you were actually at the show, in the audience. The content seemed like it was more of a made for tv concert special than a big movie production, so don't be surprised to see it airing on the Disney channel in upcoming months. But just the quality alone of the feature... I can't wait to screen the U2 in 3D concert later this month hopefully! If they can make Hannah Montana look that good and real, then it'll certainly be awesome for Bono and the Edge! (as well as Larry and Adam too!).

It is a nice $18 alternative though for those who have kids who love the show and the Jonas Brothers (they do 3 songs in the middle of the show) and were unable to afford the $250 concert ticket prices that scalpers were selling them for apiece. If your kid or yourself like Hannah Montana, they'll definitely love this concert special!

Epic Movie

if ya like or have seen any of the Scary Movie/ Date Movie franchise, you already know what to expect:

parodies of popular movies with either a raunchy/sexual twist to it, and as many of em as you can get and find some odd way to string em all together.

This one starts out with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and then leads into Chronicles of Narnia.

some highlights:
Jennifer Coolidge as The White Bitch
creepy Willy Wonka getting down to 'Fergalicious'
'Aslo'
Capt. Jack Swallows
Carmen Electra as Mystique from X-Men
Harry Potter, Ron and Hermoine get old

and probably one of the funniest lines in the movie:
The White Bitch: "If you bring the others back, I'll let you come to my White Castle"
Edward (Kal Penn aka "Kumar"): "I have the strangest feeling I've been there before..."

altho i didnt wanna murder myself, like a certain co-worker of mine, I'll admit, i did feel my IQ slip a lil... dont bother wasting your money on it unless you're really really bored, and even then, rethink spending the price of admission on it.

Alpha Dog

Just screened "Alpha Dog."

it's basically about the drug world and some young adults that dig themselves a little too deep.

The one guy owes his 'boss' (the drug lord of our tale) some cash from a deal he made, but due to the deal going wrong, he refuses to pay. in turn, his boss gets him fired from his actual day job, resulting in the guy to go berserk. in a random sponteous event, the drug lord and his buddies kidnap the guy's 15yr old brother, who's more than thrilled to go with them, get away from his overprotective parents, and help his brother out. The druggies soon learn that because they're technically holding the kid for randsom, they could face life in prison. The kid's given multiple chances to just hop a bus and go home, no questions asked, yet he doesnt want to create anymore problems for his brother. Little does he know, it could cost him his life.

Considering it's based on a true story and told sort of like an episode of CSI or Law and Order - datelines/stamps and all - it was actually pretty decent with a pretty surprising cast. Yes, there's Justin Timberlake, all in tattoos, but there's also Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone and some other well known actors you've seen in other things.

Apparently this film was also pushed back multiple times by the FBI and police due to the fact that the drug lord guy was just found and apprehended not even 2 years ago (the story takes place in 1999) and is currently awaiting trial.

The Hitcher

This week screening was 'The Hitcher' starring Sophia Bush and Sean Bean. 2 typical college kids are making the usual spring break road trip like all college kids in movies do and almost hit a guy in the middle of nowhere in the rain. After meeting up with him in a convenient store, they agree to give him a ride to the nearest motel, only on their way, they learn he's a psychopath killer.

The girl's the only smart one in this entire movie. Moral of the story boys: listen to your girlfriend in the first place. Cuz the more he didn't, the worse their situation became...

Yes, it's a remake but with a tad different stuff to keep today's culture interested. Yes, there's scene involving 2 semi's and a body. Yes, it was a tad predictable, but we still jumped at parts. And yes, parts of it reminded us of 'Jeepers Creepers' and 'Joy Ride'. But all things considered, it was actually pretty decent for a thriller/horror/soft action flick.

Best scene though (spoiler)- they're driving a stolen cop car in the desert with a helicopter and 3 cop cars chasing behind them. Cue NiN's 'Closer' and here comes the hitcher, speeding behind in a black trans am with a rifle. He single-handly takes out the 3 cop cars AND the helicopter, then passes the couple he's been terrorizing, giving them a 'hey, what's going on? dont mess with me' look and just drives off. NiN fades...
