Get Smart

Rated PG13 for mild violence

Starring Steve Carrrell, Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin, Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson, Terance Stamp, Masi Oka

Maxwell Smart (Carrell) works for Government spy agency CONTROL in an administrative capacity. When headquarters is attacked, the Chief (Arkin) decides to assign Maxwell as a spy and partners him with Agent 99 (Hathaway), much to her dismay, to get to the bottom of things. Maxwell is a total clutz though and screws up royally - he even finds himself framed to look like a double agent, while the real culprit is still on the loose.

I grew up watching the reruns of the original series on Nickelodeon as a kid. In my opinion, it was alright... I thought it could have been better though and the ending seemed a bit rushed - how 99 all of sudden goes from not being able to stand Maxwell to all of a sudden she's in love with him, makes no sense - there needed to be more character development between the two of them to establish their eventual romance. Steve Carrell was really good as Maxwell Smart though... and actually the entire cast was pretty good. There were tons of cameos, two of the favorites being Bill Murray as Agent 13 and Patrick Warburton as Hymie.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween

*note* I never saw the original John Carpenter's Halloween, however, like most, I'm aware of the basic story and have seen parts of the sequels.

This version of Halloween is Rob Zombie's interrpretation of the original. It is not another sequel. Zombie worked with Carpenter to capture the essence of the original.

The result is a classic 70s horror movie, stylized very much like how we saw in the most recent omage to 70s film, Grindhouse. The supsenseful jump-your-seat moments were timed perfectly, it has a bit of the grindhouse type subtle wit/humor you would expect from a 70s B movie (think the Evil Dead series).

It starts out in the late 70s/ early 80s with Michael Myers as a 10yr old boy. He comes from a broken home where his mother works as a stripper, his sleazy abusive stepdad is an alcoholic with a broken leg, and his older sister is known for being a whore.Bullies at school constantly pick on him for how his family is. After Mikey's most recent run-in with the bullies, the school counselor finds photos in his bag of smaller animals he's tortured and mutiliated and promptly suggests his mother get him evaluated before Mikey goes off the deep end.

A little too late.

After school we see Mikey beat one of the bullies to a pulp with a tree branch, Later that night, after mom goes to work and his sister refuses to take him trick or treating, Mikey ducts tapes his passed out stepdad to a chair and slits his throat, beats his sister's boyfriend to death with an aluminum baseball bat, and then slice and dices big sis with a knife. When mom gets home, Mikey's sitting on the steps out front, waiting with baby sister Laurie.

He spends the next 15 years in a mental facility, but never getting any better and eventually refuses to talk or take off the odd masks he makes in his alone time. In a late night transfer gone wrong, the behemoth Mikey breaks lose and takes off in search for his baby sister. As his doctor says, whatever his reasons are, they can't be good.

As you can tell, there's lots of gore and violence.

Some familar faces you may recongnize are Sheri Moon Zombie as Mikey's mom, Malcom McDowell as Dr. Loomis, with appearances by Danielle Harris and Danny Trejo.

It's interesting to see how Mikey came about wearing the mask we all know him to wear and the boogyman conversations between the 2 little kids Laurie babysits are completely amusing, especially when he shows up!

I never saw Devil's Rejects and I thought House of 1000 Corpses was one of the stupidest movies ever made (although the art/imagery used was interesting and a bit disturbing, the plot made no sense and overall it was just a giant gorefest), but this one I actually liked. Some people will hate it, others will like it.

Just remember kids, if you listen to Blue Oyster Cult and have sex, you die!

The Longest Yard

So it's adam sandler's remake of the burt reynold's film, however burt reynolds is also in this one so obviously he didnt think it was half bad or im sure he wouldnt have done it, lol...

critics said he added too much humor in it and downplayed the violence of the original - not to mention this one's PG13 which the originial was rated R, but yeah...

Sandler stars as Paul Crewe, a former QB for Pittsburgh who got banned from the NFL for shaving points off a game 6 yrs... he gets drunk one night and pissed at his gf so he takes off in her bently, gets pulled over cuz she reports the car stolen and then once they find out he's been drinking he starts a high speed police chase, eventually totalling his gf's beloved car. so since he just violated his 5 yr probation he gets to spend 3 yrs in jail. the warden has the guards play football in some legue and they're first game is scheduled against the league's returning champs so he recruits Paul to help out and give em pointers, to which he tells em they should play a match against a not so good team to boost their confidence, which gives the warden the idea that crewe should assemble a team of cons to play against em for a game to be broadcast on espn2 in 4 weeks.

there's a lot of cast members that got no publicity - like goldberg as a con w/ a huge dick, stone cold steve austin as a guard, as well as others, including the big tall guy from happy gilmore, and rob schneider randomly appearing saying 'you can do it!' chris rock's in it, as well as nelly, and of course adam sandler and burt reynolds...

it was pretty good tho, if ya like adam sandler and esp liked the waterboy or just like movies about football you'll probably like this one.
