King Kong

I have never seen the original, but from what I hear this remake was really really good. I liked it. It's sort of a long movie, but you didn't really notice. Acting wasn't too bad either however Jack Black should stick to funny movies. The giant bugs were really gross. They did a good job of capturing depression-era new york city too.

Worth seeing in the theaters!

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

These books by CS Lewis were practically required reading at my private Christian school i went to and i remember watching the movies in class in 3rd grade as well as on PBS.

Much more big budget and the kids seemed to be more of the right ages in this one than portrayed in the original movies. The only thing we remember though was that there was more character developement between the white witch and edmund, as well as the other kids at the solider camp. Lots of symbolism in this movie too, however if ya read the books ya already knew that ;)

Definately one to take the kids to!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Much much darker than the others, apparently if ya didnt read the book it would have seemed to jump around and not make a whole lot of sense at some parts (someone said they skipped about 100-200 pages within the first 10 minutes). Apparently it's just supposed to get even darker as well. Oh and this one was pg13 because someone dies in it and there's some life and death violence towards the end as well.

Can't wait to see the next movie! I'd say it's ok for older kids, but not so much the lil ones =)

Just Friends

This one starts Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart.

Brief summary:
Growing up they were the best of friends, however in high school she became the hot tease all the guys wanted while he became the fat chubby kid, they still remained friends, however he had always hoped for more. After an incident at a post graduation party Ryan's character takes off for LA to change his life and make a name for himself. He ends up doing PR stuff for one of the biggest CEOs in music and his latest project is getting a hot young ashlee simpson/britney spears type wannabe to sign with their record label. On their way to Paris they have a freak plane accident and whadya know, he's in his hometown which he hasnt visited in over 10 years. He runs into old friends, sees that Amy's character is still single and decides he's going to try to get with her... yet he's gotta keep occupied his lil singing starlet who wont leave him alone.

It was pretty funny, however the entire movie kept reminding me of another movie ive seen not too long ago... it's good for a christmas laugh though, since it takes place over christmas and the up and coming pop star is a total stab at ashlee simpson which was quite amusing as well. I'd say it's worth a matinee or a dollar movie watch if you're bored and want a good laugh.

Saw II

so considering this sequel was announced the week after the first one came out and i heard they filmed it in 8 days on only 3 sets, it's not bad...

i liked the first one better, however this one also kept ya guessing til the end.

Donnie Wahlberg (remember him from new kids on the block? he was also in the sixth sense and dreamcatcher) takes the places Carey Elwes as a father and also take's Danny Glover's place as being a detective. and this time, instead of having a dirty old bathroom, the victims are placed in a rundown house and rather than having just the 2, there's 8 people.

it's worth seeing if you liked the first one or if you like movies like se7en - pretty much the same amount of gore... however, with the way they ended it you can definately tell they are riding this franchise as far as it will go... even long after the original Jigsaw is out of the picture... so dont be too surprised for a Saw III next year.

Just Like Heaven

a total chick flick, but it was cute - i liked this one much better than Must Love Dogs - it wasnt nearly as corner as that one was, lol... and Mark Ruffalo's pretty cute too. Jon Heder (aka Napoleon Dynamite) and Donal Logue (he's on those VH1 flashback shows) costar with Ruffalo and Reese Witherspoon.

a good romantic comedy =)

40 year old Virgin

this is one damn funny movie!

steve carrell stars as this guy who works at a circuit city type of place. his 3 friends/coworkers (including paul rudd and seth rogren) find out he's a 40 yr old virgin and are determined to get him laid. in the process he meets someone on his own.

be sure to stay for the credits - the song and dance number is hilarious

carrell co-wrote it with former Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared producer Judd Apatow and it's honestly the best/funniest movie we have at our theater right now.

Must Love Dogs

Typical chick flick and i probably would have had no interest in seeing it if it wasnt for John Cusack being in it... yeah... definately not his best romantic comedy!

it had a lot of good ideas for scenes and scenarios, however they didnt exactly link together well as a whole...

it was cute however i found the ending to be very corny...

a decent date movie, but not one of John Cusack's best...

it also stars Diane Lane, Elizabeth Perkins, and the chick that played Rizzo in Grease. Diane Lane is a recent divorcee who's family is trying to hook her up and get her back out in the dating pool, which includes put her profile up on perfectmatch.com. John Cusack also plays a recent divorcee who's friend comes across Diane Lane's ad and suggests he meet her for a date.

Wedding Crashers

I thought it was gonna be dumb, but it actually turned out to be quite funny - at the screening we were all laughing our asses off...

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are wedding crashers, where they go around during wedding season and try to hook up w/ as many girls as possible... until one of em cant close the deal and ends up falling for his next conquest or whatever and things start to get a lil too personal... Will Ferrell makes a cameo near the end too

Capt, you'd like all the boobie shots in this one! lol...

Maybe not worth full price, but it's a good movie if ya wanna laugh... i'd say the humor is more of that which was in "Old School" or along those lines.

The Longest Yard

So it's adam sandler's remake of the burt reynold's film, however burt reynolds is also in this one so obviously he didnt think it was half bad or im sure he wouldnt have done it, lol...

critics said he added too much humor in it and downplayed the violence of the original - not to mention this one's PG13 which the originial was rated R, but yeah...

Sandler stars as Paul Crewe, a former QB for Pittsburgh who got banned from the NFL for shaving points off a game 6 yrs... he gets drunk one night and pissed at his gf so he takes off in her bently, gets pulled over cuz she reports the car stolen and then once they find out he's been drinking he starts a high speed police chase, eventually totalling his gf's beloved car. so since he just violated his 5 yr probation he gets to spend 3 yrs in jail. the warden has the guards play football in some legue and they're first game is scheduled against the league's returning champs so he recruits Paul to help out and give em pointers, to which he tells em they should play a match against a not so good team to boost their confidence, which gives the warden the idea that crewe should assemble a team of cons to play against em for a game to be broadcast on espn2 in 4 weeks.

there's a lot of cast members that got no publicity - like goldberg as a con w/ a huge dick, stone cold steve austin as a guard, as well as others, including the big tall guy from happy gilmore, and rob schneider randomly appearing saying 'you can do it!' chris rock's in it, as well as nelly, and of course adam sandler and burt reynolds...

it was pretty good tho, if ya like adam sandler and esp liked the waterboy or just like movies about football you'll probably like this one.

The Notebook

It follows the story of allie and noah - she's a citygirl, he's a country boy, who meet one summer (back in like the 30's or 40's), fall in love, etc and then dont see each for awhile (partly due to her mom keeping them apart), yet they're still in love and trying to lead separate lives.

there's also another story too, which im sure u'll figure out real soon, but it's a tearjerker and i rarely cry in movies! 2 of my 3 roomies watched it and were bawling their eyes out afterwards, i watched it w/ the boyfriend tonight and i was all teary-eyed... he found it to be predictable and claimed he coulda wrote the storyboards, but whatever - he sucks ;-) lol...

it's about 2 hours long and stars ryan gosland and rachel mcadams (the head bitch in mean girls) in the main roles, w/ james garner and gena rowlands. joan allen also plays allie's mom. oh and it's based on the book by nicholas sparks (he wrote 'a walk to remember' which the movie starred mandy moore and shane west).

if you're in the mood for a sweet romantic movie or a chick flick, cuddle up w/ a blanket (or a boy) and box of tissues and see this movie!!!
