Saw The Invisible last night.
And do not be fooled - it's hardly anything like the trailers/commercials make it out to be. If you go by the trailers, it would appear that he's murdered and if he wants to live again, he has to solve his own murder mystery within a certain time frame.
Yeah, hardly.
What the story actually is, is that the group that 'murders' him dumps his body and is trying to cover their tracks, although really he's still alive, but barely. He's sort of a ghost stuck in a universe between life and death, and realizes that he's actually still alive, but if he doesnt hurry and find someway to communication where his body is located, he will actually die. He's basically invisible, he can be there, but no one sees him. Kinda like a different dimension i guess. And the only person that can hear him his the last person he saw - his murderer.
It was still pretty good though, esp for being a remake of a Swedish film.
If you're in a for a good dramatic/murder type movie, check out The Invisible, rated PG-13 for mild language, teenage drinking, violence and i'd say some mature themes.

Grindhouse: Planet Terror and Death Proof
Just got back from watching Grindhouse at work - the new Robert Rodrigez/Quinten Tarentino double feature - and it was awesome.
Rodrigez's 'Planet Terror' is basically a zombie flick set in modern day, done '70s style starring Rose McGown and Bruce Willis - Fergie makes a cameo. Think of your stereotypical zombie flick, add some randomness and you get this one. It was hilarious and awesome!
Tarentino's 'Death Proof' stars Rose McGown, Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson and Zoe Bell (as herself) and is basically about a stuntman and his car who eventually decides to have some fun with a couple of stunt chicks and their car. This one starts out kind of slow - several scenes of girls chewin' the fat and bitching at each other, but the last 15 min or so definately makes up for it!
Rob Zombie does one of the coming attraction previews - 'Werewolf Women of the SS' - as does Eli Roth (director of Hostile) does a hilarious one called 'Thanksgiving.' Our copy also has trailers for Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' (due out in August) and the latest trailer for Eli Roth's 'Hostile 2'
It's got 'missing reels,' film catching on fire, cigarette burns on the screen among other typical 70s grindhouse cliches. If you like zombie movies and fast cars, check this one out! It was quite an experience - either you'll get it or you wont.
*warning, it is approximately 3 and a half hours long (we started it at 2am, the film dropped at 530am - it's 12 reels long), so pee beforehand and dont drink too much liquid or ya may miss something (but if you must pee, i recommend going during one of the long character developement scenes in Tarentino's DeathProof).
*also, due to graphic sexual scenes and anatomy shown, as well as graphic violence, this is not for anyone that's not an adult. sorry kiddies, but I guarentee you will be carded.

Blades of Glory
Blades of Glory
this one was hilarious - at one point i was laughing so hard my eyes got watery.
granted, i skated for like 4-6 years when i was a kid so that peaked my interest in this one.
will ferrell and jon heder (aka napoleon dynamite) were really funny together as rivals turned pairs skaters.
typical college/bathroom type humor...
figure skating champions such as nancy kerrigan, scott hamilton, and sacha cohen make appearances.
ben stiller was one of the writers/producers and the roommate from grandma's boy is heder's obsessed stalker fan...
i didnt see ricky bobby so dont ask me how it compares, but i thought this one was really funny - funnier than wild hogs.

TMNT
TMNT
Screened TMNT last night.
We learn our favorite Turtles have defeated Shredder and in an effort to become an even better leader, Master Splinter has sent eldest son Leondaro on a sort of sabatical in Central America. During his year long absense, the others are at their wits end at trying to stay occupied. Donatello takes a job as a 24/7 computer help programer, Michaelangelo has taken a job as Cowabunga Carl, making appearances in a cartoonish turtle suit at birthday parties, and Raphael, well he sleeps all day, but at night becomes the Ghost Rider/Batman-esque Nightwatcher, catching the bad guys on his own - he states that even though Leo and their team took a break, the criminals did not.
Leo eventually makes his return after being found by April O'Neil, and while most are pleased to see him, Raphael still has a chip on his shoulder and makes it almost impossible for Leo continue to lead them.
In the meanwhile, we learn of an ancient prophecy that is about to become real with an immortal warrior and his 4 generals that were turned to stone after he opened a portal to other dimensions 3000 years ago, unleashing 13 monsters on the earth. the time has come for the portal to open again, but this time, the warrior enlists the help of the Foot with new clan leader Karai.
The end gives way to a sequel.
The CGI animation is pretty cool and very video game-esque.
The love connection between April and Casey Jones is completely obvious. April is now more of a history curator rather than a reporter in a yellow jumpsuit and actually gets involved in the action rather than being the damsel in distress like she was in the original series. She's also voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar which drove me nuts the whole time.
Casey Jones is portayed as a more surfer Kenau Reeves type slacker who uses baseball bats - we only see him use his signature hockey stick at the end.
The rest of the turtles seem right on though and the Foot clan looks really cool too! There's also plenty of funny Mikey jokes as well.
If ya grew up with the original cartoon series and movies, you'll think this adaption is just ok, nothing great, but not bad either. It just doesn't feel the same. The beginning sequence about the prophecy reminds ya of 300 which opened 2 weeks ago.
Laurence Fisbourne narrates, Patrick Stewart and the late Mako lend their voices, and Kevin Smith makes a cameo as a scared diner owner. The Gym Class Heroes provide the end credit song "Shell Shocked"
and for those wondering, it's called TMNT because this one was done by Warner Bros, wheras the first 3 films, listed as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was done by New Line Cinema.

Wild Hogs
4 middle aged men living in suburban Ohio - John Travolta, Tim Allen, Willam H Macy and Martin Lawerence - are old college buddies who meet up each week and ride their bikes to the local pub and call themselves the wild hogs. after travolta learns he's losing all his material things in life, he decides they should all just take a week and get away from life, just 4 friends and the open road, headed to the coast.
on their trip, they have a run in with the Del Fuego's, a hardcore biker gang that doesnt like the fact that the Wild Hogs are mild aged suburban yuppies and dont think they could possibly know anything about the real meaning of being a biker. They also befriend a small town that is terrorized by the Del Fuego's, and learn about friendship, family, and love.
it was pretty funny, a couple gay innuendos including a gay police officer who keeps finding our boys in some odd situations/circumstances (which apparently liberals are upset over), but nothing too over the top. if you like any of the main actors or are just looking for a pg13 movie you can take your teens to for a good laugh, it's worth checking into.
Ray Liotta, Marisa Tomi, and Jill Henessy also star and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D makes a cameo as a festival singer.
And if you like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, be sure to watch the end credits.

300
Only Spartan women give birth to real men: 300 review
Screened 300 last night and omg was it awesome!
It's based off the graphic novel written by Frank Miller (same guy that created Sin City) and tells the tale of Lionicies (i butchered that i know), the King of Sparta, and his 300 Spartans that take on the Persians and Xereces army.
Lots of violence but very stylized, and yes, for all you guys, there's plenty of boob shots too.
Also had lots of funny one-liners, such as:
Messenger: What makes this woman think she can speak among men?
Queen: Because only Spartan women give birth to real men.
Solider: It's just an eye, the gods of graced me with a spare.
King: Spartans, what is your profession?
Soliders chant
King: Looks like I brought more soliders than you.
It was an awesome movie - very stylized and creatively done, and witty as well. If you like action movies, go see it. If you like artsy movies, go see it. If you like titties, I guess go see it *shrug*. If you like greek history stories, go see it. It won't disappoint you.

Music & Lyrics
Hugh Grant stars as a former member of a popular 80s group called 'Pop!' (think Wham and other 80s new wave bands). In order to bring his career out of the toilet, he must write the next hit song for new age pop sensation Cora (think Britney Spears into New Age). With the help of struggling lyricist Sophie (Drew Barrymore), they work together and learn a lot about themselves and of course they fall for each other. Like any Drew Barrymore movie, it was cute. Definately a chick flick, but a cute one! Hugh Grant's pretty hot in it as well. Kirsten Johnson and the guy that played Robert on Everybody Loves Raymond co-star.
Norbit
Norbit... like I really need to tell you guys to stay away from this one, but considering how it almost sold out a couple times last weekend, apparently I do!
Although I missed the beginning due to filmwork, (big loss!) what I got was that Norbit (Eddie Murphy) was raised in an orphanage with this other girl that he liked, but was too shy to tell her so they just remained friends. Years later he meets Raspusha (the fat lady version of Eddie Murphy) and shes the first girl that shows interest in him, so they get married. Well his childhood friend comes to town with her fiance (Cuba Gooding Jr) and is looking to buy the orphanage and renovate it, however her fiance learns from Raspusha's construction company that it's one of the few propertis in town that can easily get a liquor liscense and that if he helps them steal the property out from under her, they'll make him partner in their 'titty bar.' Norbit accidently gets tricked into having her sign papers for it, thinking they're just normal contract papers, during the time they spend together. Raspusha gets insanely jealous and is sure not to let the 2 of them out of her eye. A silly wedding ensues, which includes condom advice from an ex-pimp (one of the funniest characters in the whole movie). Definately not worth the time nor the money so avoid this one!

Smokin' Aces
If you like shoot em up movies but with an interesting plot, definately check this one out. The FBI makes a bargain with Buddy 'Aces' Israel - a vegas star who is wanted dead by the mob, to bring him into custody alive (one of which includes Ryan Rynolds), however numerous groups have been hired to 'bring him in' - including a trio of bounty hunters (including Ben Affleck), a pair of female assassins (including Alicia Keys), a trio of kamikaze skinhead brothers, a man that works solo and is a master of disguise, Ace's best friend, among others. The showdown at Ace's penthouse hotel suite is quite amusing and Alicia Keys is pretty good in her first big movie role. The twist at the end is rather interesting as well. Think 'Kill Bill' type of action/comedy.

Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert in 3D
Although I got stuck sitting through this pre-teen torture, the digital 3D quality of the concert was quite amazing! It was very life like and at certain points almost made you feel like you were actually at the show, in the audience. The content seemed like it was more of a made for tv concert special than a big movie production, so don't be surprised to see it airing on the Disney channel in upcoming months. But just the quality alone of the feature... I can't wait to screen the U2 in 3D concert later this month hopefully! If they can make Hannah Montana look that good and real, then it'll certainly be awesome for Bono and the Edge! (as well as Larry and Adam too!).
It is a nice $18 alternative though for those who have kids who love the show and the Jonas Brothers (they do 3 songs in the middle of the show) and were unable to afford the $250 concert ticket prices that scalpers were selling them for apiece. If your kid or yourself like Hannah Montana, they'll definitely love this concert special!
